How Government Works
EVERYBODY is talking about Waste Fraud and Abuse (WF&A). The current administration claims to be “uncovering” it everywhere they look. It is very unclear what they are counting in their tallies, so the current number is immaterial and must be considered “unreliable data” until further transparency occurs. The current number is rapidly approaching $1 trillion.
In social media discussions, I see many statements that indicate to me that the general public knows very little about Executive Branch agencies and how they work: writing regulations, distributing funding, ensuring compliance, reporting to Congress and the public.
I graduated from Seattle University School of Law in 2009. I worked in the Community, Planning, and Development Division of HUD for 10 years (2009-2019). I was also active in union work, both locally, in the Seattle office, and nationally, negotiating HUD-wide working conditions in Washington D.C.
In this on-going series of posts, I will explain all I know about what really goes on in Executive Branch federal agencies, including “how regulations are written” “Grants and Loans” “Interpreting regulations” “Oversight” “Federal employee unions”.
I always encourage comments here in the Shared Pool of Knowledge, so if you have a question about these agencies, let me know. If you have knowledge about how other agencies function, share it with us.
